Zankel Hall, retrofitted into underground space that was once occupied by an art movie house, has much to recommend it: comfortable seating, an interior that is easy on the eyes, and a lively acoustic. Yet as a chamber venue within Carnegie Hall, it has one drawback: the rumble of the subway trains that pass below. A quartet whose stock in trade is hitting things (percutere: to hit, to strike) seems just the team to make this problem go away—not that their offerings will necessarily exclude material requiring a gentler touch. —M.G.
