She Who Wrote: Enheduanna and Women of Mesopotamia

Morgan Library and Museum / New York

Bringing together art and artifacts from the third millennium B.C., this landmark exhibition showcases the women of Ancient Mesopotamia and their varied roles in society, from goddess and priestess to mother and worker. In doing so, “She Who Wrote” paints a picture of what life was like for Mesopotamian women of this era. It shines a special light on one particular Mesopotamian woman, Enheduanna, who is the first named author in recorded history. —Sabina Vitale
