DESCRIPTION:Apr 2 - May 23\, 2026\nLooking at work by the British artist Ro
se Wylie\, the words “carefree” and “genuine” come to mind. Her st
yle is childlike\, elementary in its execution\, and instantly recognizabl
 e. She takes inspiration from pop culture\, newspapers\, mythology\, and e
veryday life\, pulling form from memory and adding floating letters and se
ntences. Critical commentary is on offer\, but tendered in Wylie’s humor
ous way. She is now 92\, and was little known before her late 70s. In an i
nterview in 2018\, she described her experiences of sexism in the art worl
 d. “‘You’re a woman\, so why do you paint so big?’ ‘You’re old
\, you shouldn’t be painting like that.’ It was distinctly irritating\
,” she says. This exhibition features Wylie’s new and recent canvases\
, as well as multipaneled pieces and works on paper.
