In discussing his photographic technique, Richard Mosse told the Financial Times that he’s really just “pissing in the wind.” Then he explained. “My eyes are not thermographic . . . So you don’t know what the camera will actually see and not see.” To clarify: Mosse uses military-grade cameras to detect heat and capture images at great distances. This has allowed him to document the enormity of the refugee crisis, and the harrowing journeys made from African and Middle Eastern countries to emergency shelters in Europe. —E.C.
