Ree Morton once described her approach to art as “light and ironic on serious subjects without frivolity.” Her post-minimalist installations, paintings, sculptures, and drawings combine emotion and humor, vivid color and theatrical imagery, touched with a uniquely playful feminism. Morton died at age 40, in 1977, in a car accident. This is her first major exhibition in the U.S. in four decades. —E.C.
