 m of it all was host Chris Hansen\, who would pompously confront each felo
 n with their evils before they were carted off by the police. After one su
 bject committed suicide\, however\, the show ended in 2008. Director Lance
  Oppenheim now revisits America’s obsession with the franchise\, telling
  the story of Hansen’s ruthless rise to media dominance. Robert Pattinso
 n\, who is cast in the role of Hansen\, is no stranger to freakish\, off-k
 ilter loners. He gave us a darker take on Bruce Wayne in The Batman\, play
 ed a borderline-insane lighthouse keeper in The Lighthouse\, and was Edwar
 d Cullen\, the awkward vampire heartthrob in Twilight. Now looking to root
  out society’s worst\, his character ultimately ends up caught in his ow
 n mania. “It reminded me of Jack Nicholson in The Shining\,” Oppenheim
  has said of Pattinson’s performance. “Very heightened\, but with a le
 vel of tragedy and insecurity\, something very honest.” Phoebe Bridgers 
 and Skyler Gisondo costar. As Hansen would say\, “Have a seat.”
