On June 28, 1969, police raided a gay club called Stonewall Inn, located on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. The raid was nothing new, but the response to the raid—spontaneous riots—forever changed the gay rights movement in America and around the world. The 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising has seen a number of exhibitions this year. On now at the Museum of the City of New York is “Pride: Photographs of Stonewall and Beyond by Fred W. McDarrah.” —J.V.
