Picture James Bond’s impeccably fitted suit—any actor, any suit—or the Black Panthers’ ensemble of leather jacket and black beret. Though vastly different, the looks share a common denominator: they embody power. “Power Mode: The Force of Fashion” is broken up into themes that include the history of the suit, sexuality and power, and clothes of the resistance, starting in the 18th century and reaching all the way to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s “We Should All Be Feminists” shirt, a design from Christian Dior’s Spring 2017 collection based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essay of the same name. —J.V.
