In its announcement supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, Broadway HD, a streaming service for theater, expressed a belief in the “power of black art to move this conversation forward.” Hence the decision to make Pipeline, the groundbreaking 2017 play by Dominique Morisseau, available for free. Telling the story of Nya, a public school teacher, and her son Omari, who is on the brink of expulsion from his private school, the play movingly renders the emotions of black mothers, their sons, and life in an unequal, unjust, and often violent America. —C.J.F.
