  artist’s books\, known as livres d’artiste\, were a collaborative for
 m in which a visual artist and a writer conceived a book together\, develo
 ping image and text in dialogue. The books are now considered art objects 
 themselves. Pablo Picasso\, Joan Miró\, and Salvador Dalí were among the
  form’s most ambitious practitioners\, and the Museum of Fine Arts Bosto
 n is now presenting a focused selection that includes Juan Gris and Pierre
  Reverdy’s Au Soleil du Plafond (1955)\; and Miró’s Le Lézard aux pl
 umes d’or\, with its 40 color lithographs. Dalí’s 1974 illustrations 
 for Sigmund Freud’s Moses and Monotheism is an example of an artist illu
 strating a foundational text. Resistant to easy categorization\, these boo
 ks are rare and almost never on view.
