It was the noir prophet of cyberpunk, William Gibson, who first coined the term “meta-city,” which compared the rise of the internet—its interconnectedness—to living in a cyber metropolis. Today, in an inescapably digital world, the sci-fi meta-city seems not just eerily here, its aesthetics have infiltrated art and culture.
