DESCRIPTION:Oct 27\, 2026\nThe pianist Paul Lewis\, who names the legendary
Alfred Brendel as his mentor and sits on international competition juries
with the distinguished likes of Marta Argerich and Stephen Kovacevich\, v
isits America’s shores all too seldom. Beginning in Edinburgh\, his fall
calendar has him shuttling from the U.K. to China\, Austria\, Korea\, and
Australia—happily with touchdowns in Vancouver (October 25) and Seattle
(October 27). His West Coast program is the second of his “Mozart+” s
eries (hence: “Mozart+ 2”)\, consisting of Carl Maria von Weber and Fr
édéric Chopin sandwiched between the Salzburg wonder’s sonatas Nos. 17
and 13\, in that order\, which are both in the key of B-flat major. (Lewi
 s’s “Mozart+ 1” established the template with sonatas with a major a
nd a minor-key sonata in C bracketing Debussy and mostly Poulenc.) Apart f
rom his exquisite touch and lucid sense of architecture\, Lewis has a sixt
h sense for crosscurrents between composers who on the surface seem to hav
e little in common. Cherish any chance to hear him\, and prepare to be spe
 llbound.
