In case you’ve forgotten your college English, it begins sonorously, with just a touch of Cecil B. DeMille: “Of Man’s first disobedience, and the fruit / Of that forbidden tree whose mortal taste / Brought death into the World, and all our woe …” Yes, that’s John Milton’s Paradise Lost. Satan, of course, was the first to disobey. Kicked out of Heaven, he plots to undermine God by corrupting those two blissfully happy creatures in Eden—Adam and Eve. Playwright Tom Dulack brings Milton’s masterpiece to the stage in a contemporary retelling of “the fall.” —L.J.
