DESCRIPTION:Sep 10\, 2026 - Jan 31\, 2027\nThe Colombian artist Olga de Ama
ral was born in 1932 in Bogotá. After receiving a degree in architectural
design\, she studied English at Columbia University\, in New York City. F
rom there\, in 1954\, she trekked to Michigan to study fiber art at the Cr
anbrook Academy of Art. “In Cranbrook\,” she has explained\, “the te
xtile workshop had eight looms placed against the windows: one of them\, i
n the corner\, would be my home for a year. There\, I lived my most intima
te moments of solitude\; there was born my certainty about color\; its str
ength.” Amaral returned to her home country and began making decorative
textiles as special commissions for architects and friends\; she also star
ted a workshop with her husband\, Jim Amaral. Characteristic is her use of
fabric\, gesso\, and precious metals such as gold and silver leaf\, a com
bination that creates kinetic shimmers of transcendence. Featuring 130 tex
tiles and works on paper created over the span of 65 years\, “Olga de Am
aral: Weaving the Infinite” is the artist’s most comprehensive exhibit
 ion to date.
