“Having an experience is taking part in the world,” the Danish-Icelandic installation artist Olafur Eliasson has said. “Taking part in the world is really about sharing responsibility.” In his exhibition “Symbiotic seeing,” a large circular panel of gems, titled Algae Window, refracts the space into fragments. In different rooms, screens project powerful but not quite knowable natural phenomena. Eliasson is suggesting a world that isn’t human-centric. “Maybe we need to create different guidelines for life on Earth,” he says, “than ones that see human beings as more important.” —E.C.
