DESCRIPTION:Nov 11-15\, 2026\nSpeculative fiction—an uncanny valley of th
e present or future—is all the rage in publishing\, but the genre hasn
’t much touched the stage. The polymath creators Okwui Okpokwasili and P
eter Born are out to change that. With their ongoing adaku trilogy\, they
are inventing a new form. On paper\, adaku\, part two: she shivers with it
sounds straightforward enough: “Set in a near-future United States\, a
young woman taught that she has no history worth remembering receives sudd
en transmissions” from the past. But Okpokwasili wasn’t anointed a Mac
Arthur genius for nothing. With Born directing and designing the productio
n\, the Igbo-American uses her considerable powers of choreography as well
as song- and play-writing to unsettle our expectations of any one of thes
e disciplines. In she shivers with it\, five women (including the mesmeriz
ing Okpokwasili) sing and trudge. They argue and dance. They shimmer with
 light.
