Nurse Jackie stars Edie Falco. Need I say more? Fine, maybe you aren’t like me—I’ll watch anything Falco-related. Maybe you need something more to persuade you. Luckily, this dark comedy has much to recommend it. Jackie is a no-nonsense, deeply compassionate nurse in a New York City emergency room. She’s the essence of tough love, and runs a tight ship, winning both the admiration and fear of her colleagues (Merrit Weaver co-stars as a naive new nurse, and Peter Facinelli plays an arrogant young doctor). But Jackie has a secret: she pops pills, any pill will do, and it’s starting to unbalance her tightrope world. The show expertly dovetails workplace comedy into domestic drama, making for a great binge watch—which you’ll have to do if you want to see all seven seasons before December 31, when the show leaves Netflix. —C.J.F.
