In the language of the Indigenous Wiradjuri people of Australia, nirin means “edge.” This is the culture of the acclaimed artistic director, Brook Andrew, who presents the Biennale as an opportunity for powerful artists “to lead through difficult global times.” Given the recent turmoil, the promise of direction and encouragement is a comforting notion. And though we’ll have to experience the Biennale through the glare of our computer screen, over 90 artists are teaming up to let us know everything is going to be alright. Anna Boghiguian, Manuel Ocampo, and Zanele Muholi are among them. —E.C.
