National Theatre at Home

National Theatre / London / Stage

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will …” These days, we may yearn more than ever for the liberation that Jane Eyre describes in Charlotte Brontë’s classic. With the National Theatre’s new online initiative, at least we’ll be able to sympathize with Jane herself. Sally Cookson’s stage adaptation of the book is just one of several theater productions that the National Theatre invites audiences to stream for free via YouTube. Others include Jon Klassen’s children’s book adaptation I Want My Hat Back, with music by Arthur Darvill, and Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard. —J.V.
