DESCRIPTION:Jun 13 - Sep 13\, 2026\nIn 1983\, the photographer Bruce Bernar
d captured the artist Lucian Freud posed on his side on a wooden box\, str
iking his version of one of Henry Moore’s reclining figures. Although Mo
ore and Freud moved for some time in the same artistic circles\, Bernard
’s photo is the only concrete link between them. It is with this image t
hat the first exhibition to present their work side by side begins. Both a
rtists drew upon family as a recurring theme. Moore often focused on relat
ionships and groups\, best seen in his maquettes of the Madonna and Child
and his wartime shelter drawings\, which captured families in hiding durin
g the London Blitz. Freud was inspired by his children\, lovers\, and frie
nds\, and his portraits of them were intimate and emotionally resonant. At
  Hastings Contemporary\, 20 works—Moore’s abstractions and Freud’s r
aw realism—engage in a sustained conversation.
