When the actor Kevin Bacon, in 2014, said, “Hollywood is more of an idea than a place,” the contemporary Australian artist Tracey Moffatt was already 15 years into a film series exploring that very subject. Moffatt’s series, now finished, consists of eight films that deconstruct the stereotypes of love, tragedy, and the Other within Hollywood cinema and television. For the first time, the films are available in the digital sphere, thanks to the Bass museum’s virtual Instagram gallery. —J.V.
