“My work in many ways helps resolve my own struggles,” the Seoul-born, California-based artist Mimi Jung told Surface in 2019. Jung’s woven compositions bridge personal reflection and geometrical exploration. In this exhibition she explores the ellipse. To a series of serene curves created upon a loom she brings color, tactility, and light. Each work is dated over a four-month period in 2017. Each evokes distinct sensations and memories, captured in warp and weft. —E.C.
