“Go at your audience with a whip,” the composer Louis Horst told the young Martha Graham, the greatest modern dancer of the 20th century. “Carve a place for yourself in space,” Graham told the dancers in her company. Between the whip and the knife, the gut and the heart, that’s where you’ll find the Martha Graham Dance Company. Five different programs at the Martha Graham Studio Theater bring you deeper into performance poetics. Two of the programs focus on choreographers Andrea Miller and Hofesh Schecter as they create new works for the company. The other three shine a spotlight on the Graham dances Acts of Light, Appalachian Spring, and Canticle for Innocent Comedians. Check out the company Web site for more info. —L.J.
