DESCRIPTION:Dec 17\, 2026 - Apr 12\, 2027\nThe daughter of Venezuelan paren
ts\, Maria Sol Escobar (1930–2016) was born in Paris\, grew up there\, a
nd then crossed the ocean to make her name. In New York City she became kn
own as “Marisol.” A player in the budding Pop art scene\, Marisol work
ed in many mediums. For a time\, she was close to Andy Warhol\, who invite
d her to appear in his early films The Kiss (1963) and 13 Most Beautiful G
irls (1964). Virtually world famous in the 1960s\, Marisol lapsed into obs
curity. But she still kept making art. Her drawing is gorgeous. And her sc
ulptures\, often described as “totemic\,” mate folk art stoicism with
Surrealism. This retrospective is the first to focus on Marisol’s drawin
gs. It features more than 100 works that date from the 1950s into the new
 millennium\, as well as a selection of sculptures\, archival materials\, a
nd several of the Warhol films in which she starred.
