The name Marie Cuttoli is known to the fashion set because her home at 55 Rue de Babylone was later the home of Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. In the world of weaving, however, Cuttoli looms large: in the 1930s she singlehandedly revived the Aubusson tapestry business. This cultured, French-born woman commissioned tapestry designs from Rouault, Léger, Picasso, Braque, Le Corbusier, Man Ray, and Miró, among others. The Barnes Foundation pairs the paintings with the weavings to tell the story of a eureka moment in the decorative arts. —L.J.
