DESCRIPTION:Oct 2\, 2026 - Feb 21\, 2027\nEdvard Munch (1863–1944) and Ma
ria Lassnig (1919–2014) never met\, but they had plenty in common. Both
were fascinated by the human body\, particularly its capacity for pain\, f
ear\, and anxiety. Munch\, best known for The Scream\, painted his anxieti
es about love\, illness\, and death. Lassnig developed what she called “
body awareness” paintings\, images that depicted her body not as it look
ed but as she felt it from within. Munch was a major influence on Lassnig.
Last winter\, an exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle brought the two a
rtists together for the first time. It is now in Zürich and features some
150 works\, with loans from Oslo’s Munch Museum and the Maria Lassnig F
 oundation\, in Vienna.
