Maren Hassinger

Dia Bridgehampton / Bridgehampton / Art

The former East Hampton resident Maren Hassinger has gone West—to Bridgehampton—to display her signature “angry bush” sculptures. Hassinger, a multimedia artist, once argued that “our relationship to nature is going to be different than other generations’ relationship to nature because we have damaged everything.” In this exhibition, she invokes that change using her own archive. Hanging rows of transparent fabric panels from DIA’s ceiling, each printed with a photograph of an outdoor bush sculpture, Hassinger creates an air-conditioned faux-forest inside the gallery. If attendees prefer to be outdoors, they can sit on the lawn under her seven-foot-tall tree sculptures, which are made of steel cables. —J.D.
