DESCRIPTION:Nov 21\, 2026 - Apr 25\, 2027\nMarc Chagall (1887–1985) was f
ascinated by the circus and returned to its acrobats\, clowns\, equestrian
s\, and musicians throughout his career. In 1967\, he produced “Le Cirqu
e\,” a series of color lithographs accompanied by an essay in which he d
escribed the circus as both “disturbing” and “profound.” Among the
performers\, he placed familiar figures from his childhood in Vitebsk (no
w part of Belarus)—goats and embracing lovers among them. The Hepworth W
akefield brings together the complete series\, which is rarely exhibited i
n its entirety. The show also includes related paintings and archival mate
 rial.
