 rely to visual storytelling. Its purview is deliberately broad. Prehistori
 c cave paintings\, Norman Rockwell illustrations\, Frank Frazetta fantasy 
 art\, and Star Wars concept drawings all belong to the same tradition. Des
 igned by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects\, the building rises from a 13-acre 
 campus in Exposition Park\, where gardens by Mia Lehrer have replaced a fo
 rmer parking lot. Inside\, exhibition space of 100\,000 square feet is div
 ided into 30 or so galleries\, and the art on view includes works by Artem
 isia Gentileschi\, Frida Kahlo\, Diego Rivera\, Robert Crumb\, Banksy\, an
 d Judith F. Baca\, whose Great Wall of Los Angeles stretches for half a mi
 le. There is also a free research library containing Joseph Campbell’s a
 nnotated books and 3\,000 art books donated by Steve Martin\; two theaters
  with continuous screenings\; and the rooftop Skywalker Grill.
