Tabula Rasa Dance Theater on Youtube / New York / Stage

When Felipe Escalante, the founder and artistic director of Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, saw the company’s New York City spring season cancelled due to coronavirus lockdown, he came up with another stage—a moveable space for new dances. Escalante built acrylic boxes the size of a large phone booth and delivered them to four of his dancers. He then choreographed solos that fit within the box—symbolic of quarantine, emotional intensity, absurdity—and taught them to his dancers through Skype. Costumes, lighting, props, Liquidus! Starting on July 25, the solos will be livestreamed on YouTube over four consecutive Saturday nights, at seven P.M. E.T. —L.J.
