The West End’s longest running musical, Les Misérables, is set to return as a staged concert with an eight-week run at the newly renovated Sondheim Theatre. Cameron Mackintosh’s production comes to life against a backdrop of looming artistic projections that call up 19th-century Paris. Inspired by Victor Hugo’s own paintings, these projections replace some of the larger set pieces, making way for a stripped-down and striking performance, complete with all the intensity and beautiful vocals for which the original show is known. The production features an all-star cast, led by Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher, and Matt Lucas. —Marie Palmer
