“When people come to my exhibitions,” says the artist Lee Mingwei, “they get personally involved in my projects.” Lee creates installations and performance-based art that encourages viewers to do more than just look; he often gives them simple instructions to follow, which opens up ideas about exchange and transformation. He says, “Without your participation my works are meaningless.” In a survey that spans three decades, Lee’s practice is explored in the context of his evolution. —E.C.
