Lee Krasner: Living Colour

Paul Klee Center Bern Art

Combative, caustic, unique, honest, brilliant—these are just a few of the words friends have used to describe the artist Lee Krasner. Often lost in the long shadow cast by her husband, Jackson Pollock, Krasner’s work has been overlooked. Gifted herself, she worked cyclically, revitalizing her practice by refusing to adopt a rigid signature style. Krasner, who died in 1984 at the age of 75, painted for 50 years. Here, for the first time in Europe in half a century, is a retrospective on the woman who lived at the heart of Abstract Expressionism. —E.C.
