“What does it look like to see not just the plant idled, but the workers’ lives idled, too?” The art of LaToya Ruby Frazier thrusts this question before viewers. Following the “unallocation” of the General Motors Plant in Lordstown, Ohio—after 50 years of operation—employees faced a terrifying choice: move across the country or lose everything. On a quest for justice, Frazier interviewed families. Now, in an immersive installation and with 60 photographs, she invokes their most difficult moments. The exhibition space echoes the GM Plant assembly line. —E.C.
