A new French opera based on an old Soviet story? In 1994 a film called The Flood used the same story and starred Isabelle Huppert. L’inondation (The Flood), was written in 1929 by the Soviet satirist and dissident Yevgeny Zamyatin. It tells a tale of love, jealousy, and a primitive act swallowed up by a primal flood. The libretto for this new opera is by the acclaimed French playwright Joël Pommerat, who also directs. The score is by Francesco Filidei. —L.J.
