DESCRIPTION:Oct 4\, 2026 - Jan 31\, 2027\nLee Krasner and Jackson Pollock m
et in New York in 1942\, married three years later\, and moved to East Ham
pton on Long Island. Though it can seem like Pollock was born from the for
ehead of Zeus\, he and his wife shared an aesthetic affinity and inspired
each other. After Pollock died in a 1956 car crash\, Krasner lived for ano
ther 30 years\, painting all the while as her husband’s reputation grew.
Indeed\, she worked hard to advance that reputation. Only in recent decad
es have a number of female Abstract Expressionists begun to gain notice\,
Krasner among them. The Met is now presenting paintings by Krasner and Pol
lock\, 120 in all\, side by side. As the show’s curator Emily Breeny rec
ently told Anne Higonnet\, for an article in Town & Country\, she wants bo
th artists to “shine\, like a solar system with two suns.”
