Judi Dench’s Wild Borneo Adventure

Streaming on Discovery Plus / Film & TV

Recently, Judi Dench adopted three orphaned orangutans. Now, somewhere between lockdown and filming a screen adaptation of Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit, Dench has managed a trip to Borneo, where, at age 86, she gives 94-year-old David Attenborough a run for his money and viewers a chance to escape their homes for an hour or two. Despite the more than 100-degree temperatures and 95-percent humidity that are the norm in the 100-million-year-old rainforest of this southwestern Pacific island, Dench doesn’t break a sweat. With her signature candor and wit, she takes in the forests’ natural processes and singular wildlife, from elephants to flying frogs and beetles who move 1,000 times their own bodyweight. —J.V.

For Attenborough devotees, there is also Discovery Plus’s A Perfect Planet, a new five-part series Attenborough has narrated and brought to life with the help of the Planet Earth team.
