 ial materials into expressive\, energetic forms. This long-term exhibition
  at Dia Beacon shows how his work fuses the gestural force of Abstract Exp
 ressionism with the everyday materials and imagery of Pop art. Drawn from 
 Dia’s collection\, the exhibition traces his experimentation from the la
 te 1960s through his later explorations of color\, scale\, and space. Begi
 nning in 1967\, Chamberlain spent seven years working with unconventional\
 , pliable materials\, including aluminum foil\, Plexiglas\, paper bags\, a
 nd urethane foam\; their immediacy allowed him to explore new ways of maki
 ng sculpture. As Chamberlain explained\, “I work with the material as op
 posed to enforcing some kind of will upon it.” These experiments shaped 
 his return to steel\, where he continued to transform found metal by crush
 ing\, folding\, twisting\, and painting it. The exhibition follows this ev
 olution through his iconic steel sculptures and into his later works\, whe
 re sprayed and layered color animates industrial surfaces and reshapes the
  viewer’s experience of space. Across materials and periods\, Chamberlai
 n transformed ordinary industrial materials into vivid\, unpredictable for
 ms.
