Jennifer Steinkamp works in the medium of the future, producing 3-D video installations from behind a computer screen. Yet she refuses to forget the past. This exhibition of three installations—Still-Life, Blind Eye 2, and Retinal 2–is in conversation with the still lifes of the 16th-century. What was once about fragility and mortality, is here about movement and rebirth. Counterintuitively, Steinkamp gives her still lifes, well … artificial life. —E.C.
