“Light is not so much something that reveals,” the California-based artist James Turrell has said, “as it is itself the revelation.” The Light and Space movement—also called California Minimalism—began on the West Coast in the 1960s, and Turrell was one of its pioneers. Over the years, he has turned colored light, fluorescence, and light refractions into pure expression. In this exhibition, three unique aperture wall installations are programmed with hundreds of color combinations that combine and morph, as if alive. Each work creates an immersive environment—a space for meditation and reflection. —E.C.
