A Monthly Culture Matrix For the Cosmopolitan Traveler

James Turrell

Pace Gallery / Online / Art

“My work has no object, no image and no focus,” says the American artist James Turrell, known for immersive installations that utilize saturated light as their only ‘material.’ Take the subject of an artwork away, Turrell proposes, and you’re left “looking at you looking.” This particular exhibition consists of new works from Turrell’s “Constellation” series. The ambient light from four frosted-glass shapes, wall-mounted in separate chambers, subtly morphs in color, emphasizing our emotional responses to the light waves surrounding us. —J.V.
