DESCRIPTION:Jul 11 - Aug 29\, 2026\nWhile Maria Lassnig\, Cathy Josefowitz\
, and Carol Rama were born in different countries—respectively\, Austria
\, America\, and Italy—as artists they were similarly intimate with fema
le physicality\, and depicted the body and psyche through amorphous forms.
Lassnig called this “body awareness” and painted the parts of herself
she could feel while working. Josefowitz was driven by her exploration of
the flesh envelope with which she always felt at odds. “I was crippled
by the image of myself\,” she wrote. For Rama\, her limbless watercolor
nudes were an act of rebellion against the fascist world she endured in he
r youth. “Work is the only way to drive off my fears\,” she said. “M
y rebellion consists of painting.” This exhibition at Hauser & Wirth uni
tes the work of these three women for the first time\, highlighting their
 journeys into the mind-body connection.
