Asian art is rooted in visions and dreams. Manga and anime drawings, for instance, see the future through adolescent eyes. In the past six months the world has changed a great deal, and the Asian artists gathered here are inspired as much by German Expressionism and French Surrealism as by their own cultural traditions. Glowing elephants fly in a night sky. There’s a three-eyed geisha, a magical lavender goddess, and girls of fairylike refinement. The future seems to be female. This otherworldly exhibition spans both London and Rome galleries. —E.C.
