Like his idols in Les Nabis—artists in fin-de-siècle Paris (Vuillard, Vallotton, Bonnard) who experimented with color and composition, and named their group after the Hebrew word for prophet—the self-taught American artist Honor Titus paints people at leisure in stylized and utopian settings. A couple dancing is seen through a window. Young lovers lounge in a park. A man sits lazily under a tree. But the work is not simple. Titus draws from jazz influences, memory, literature, comics, architecture, and advertisements. In his first solo exhibition, available both in person and online, a selection of his mesmerizing moments are on display. —E.C.
