 ew York City. One is Hermès Maison on Madison Avenue\, a 20\,250-square-f
 oot behemoth that merges a historic 1921 Federalist-style former bank with
  two adjacent five-story structures\, and the other is Hermès Meatpacking
 \, in the Meatpacking District at 46 Gansevoort Street. It is said that al
 l good things come in threes\, and now New York has a third Hermès—only
  for this one\, you’ll need to cross the Brooklyn Bridge (or take the L 
 train).Located at 111 North 6th Street\, at the corner of North 6th and Be
 rry Streets\, Hermès Williamsburg has four distinct brick façades that d
 raw on the architecture of the neighborhood’s older warehouses. A hidden
  courtyard\, framed by copper tubes\, serves as its entrance. Designed by 
 the architect Denis Montel and spearheaded by Diane Mahady\, the president
  and C.E.O. of Hermès Americas\, the store has been three years in the ma
 king. “Williamsburg has a very distinctive personality\, and we’re alw
 ays drawn to locations or places or people that have a strong individualis
 t point of view\,” Mahady tells me. “You have this long legacy of make
 rs and creators [in Williamsburg]\, which feels very synergistic with us a
 nd the values that we appreciate.”She’s not wrong. Williamsburg was a 
 new bohemia in the 1980s and 90s\, traces of which still remain and even h
 elped bring this Hermès to life\; for instance\, the local artist Christi
 na Zimpel created the windows. Inside\, there are raw brick walls\, colorf
 ul geometric carpets\, a staircase inspired by local fire escapes\, and in
 stallations made from woven leather straps\, baby-blue shoelaces\, and cot
 ton fibers. “Much like the exterior\, the interior draws strongly from t
 he atmosphere and domestic character of Brooklyn apartments\,” explains 
 Montel. “The idea was to imagine the boutique as if Hermès had moved in
 to a Williamsburg loft and simply opened its doors to the neighborhood.”
