“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” So said Lao Tzu, back in the 6th century B.C. Art—looking at it, contemplating its meaning, getting lost in it—holds us in the present. Bonnie Clearwater, the curator of the exhibition “Happy!,” says that the artists in the show “suggest that art can provide viewers with a sense of well-being that will help them cope with life’s challenges.” The star lineup includes Clemente, Emin, Haring, Koons, Rothko, Warhol, and many more. Given the 22 works displayed on the museum website, it’s clear that bright color is a serotonin boost. —L.J.
