  of her adult life in France\, painting quiet interiors\, solitary women\,
  and nuns in muted tones\, achieving a quality of stillness that eluded he
 r brother Augustus\, an artist far better known than she was. Rodin’s mo
 del and lover from 1904 to 1917\, John converted to Catholicism in 1913 an
 d later withdrew almost entirely from the world. Recognition came decades 
 after her death. This exhibition\, the largest so far on John\, marks her 
 150th birthday and draws on loans from the Yale Center for British Art\, t
 he National Galleries of Scotland\, and the National Museum of Women in th
 e Arts. These works are rarely seen together\, and in some cases rarely se
 en at all.
