Girl from the North Country is the latest example of the appeal—and the variety—of musicals based on artists’ back catalogs, and Mamma Mia! it ain’t. Here, in a guesthouse in Depression-era Duluth, Minnesota, a diverse group of folks express their inner lives through Bob Dylan’s songs. The show premiered in London two years ago and is still playing there. In 2018, it had a hit off-Broadway run at the Public Theater. Now it’s on its way to Broadway—by way of Toronto. —K.F.
