Gilbert and George have shared a home and a creative practice since 1967, outlasting most marriages-cum-creative partnerships. Their longevity may have to do with the simple and kind ethos of their creative approach: “art for all.” They transform ordinary images and references with bombastic color tinting and surprising collage combinations. Each piece is a “love letter” addressed to a more inclusive world, one that is truly multicultural, sexually free, and built on affectionate curiosity about others. —C.J.F.
