Published in 1818, Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus celebrated its 200th anniversary last year. Myriad incarnations of the story have populated these two centuries and now the Carolina Ballet adds another. In an art form that sees dolls coming to life (Coppélia), and a princess spellbound in feathers (Swan Lake), Frankenstein’s monster should be right at home. —L.J.
